One of the famous landmarks of the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is the Sultan Abdul Samad Palace located on Independence Square (Dataran Merdeka). The magnificent building in the Moorish style was built according to the design of the British architect Arthur Norman.

Work on the construction of the palace began in 1894, and a grand opening ceremony took place in 1897. The building was named after Sultan Abdul of Selangor at the time, and whose name is carved into the stone foundation of the palace.

The Sultan Abdul Samad Building has a façade length of 137 metres. At the time of its completion, it was the largest brick building in Kuala Lumpur. It was first the British colonial administration, then the Malaysian judiciary, and now houses the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture.
