Flow State: When the Mind, Body and Soul Produce Something Extraordinary

Post by shukla7789 »

Have you ever been through this? You start to do a job and feel lazy, sleepy, tired, you access social media and 'see everything' and, at the same time, you do nothing. Your head says: " Come on... a little more... concentrate!" and for a few moments you manage to get back to work. However, soon after, other needs prevent you from completing what you initially intended. Sometimes you even manage to complete a task, but you know that you are below your productive capacity. Do you know this feeling? How often has this happened?

There is also the opposite: have you ever done something that synchronized your body, mind, soul and attention? Where did you reach peak performance? That moment when you are working and the hours fly by, hunger and sleep disappear, and you don't hear the noise of anything else. Do you live in a state where the task being performed and the person performing it merge into one? There is a deep immersion of your state of consciousness . Your head thinks so quickly that your 99 acres database responds with precision.

There is a term for this: “ Flow State ”. This concept was developed in the 1970s by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who researched the creativity of artists and extended his research to other fields, leveraging Positive Psychology together with Martin Seligman .

What is Flow State?
Flow is a state of total immersion. With maximum focus and concentration, all action, involvement and thought flow in sequence with the action, movement and thought that preceded them, until the end of the activity. Because of this, the flow state confers an extreme feeling of well-being and fulfillment. We can go further and say that it is a supreme moment of happiness .

Helder Kamei, who has a master's degree in Social and Work Psychology from USP and is the author of the book “Flow and Positive Psychology: State of flow, motivation and high performance”, says that Flow has a combination of four elements: intrinsic motivation, maximum concentration, a very positive emotional state and a high performance rate.

How to enter the Flow State?
The question that everyone wants to know is: can we have more moments of Flow? You must have already realized how difficult it is to achieve this state. Daily pressure, stress, the appeal of the digital world, lack of time and so many other factors undermine our maximum productivity.

Yes! It is possible to consciously reach peaks of Flow with greater depth and not let chance take over.

I believe that first you need to tune your mental and physical state. When your brain is active and less affected by negative emotions, your performance improves , your concentration intensifies, your productivity increases and your level of satisfaction is high. Among so many options, I will share three powerful strategies to prepare your brain to experience the state of Flow more consistently:

1. Look for something that harmonizes your body and mind
Meditation, relaxation, sports, food, music, painting, artistic activity, reading, film. We all have a channel that allows us to release and replenish our energy. What is your way of achieving this?

2. Do something outside your comfort zone
Challenge yourself! This creates an initial instability in the brain and then a feeling of empowerment. It's a festival of dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin. Your brain responds with happiness.

3. Have a purpose greater than money, career, success
When we are clear that we came into this world to leave a legacy, we have goals, focus and attitude. We can leave tiredness aside, laziness outside, and daily pressures have less of an impact on us. When it comes to producing our work, our brain becomes more active and ready to create something that goes beyond limits and generates extraordinary results.
