The past year and a half has been filled with unexpected technological innovation as everyone has set out to meet the demands of a new reality. But are these innovations just a product of the pandemic, or are they here to stay?


Advances in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), e-commerce and the Internet of Things (IoT) were already well established on the radar of technological trends. What we didn’t expect was that fields such as education and healthcare, which are among the most conservative in adopting new technologies, would suddenly become the center of attention, progressing in a matter of months in ways that would normally take years.

Of course, we have understood the importance of homeowner database connectivity for decades. But we never predicted that it would become the central point of our daily lives practically overnight.

What is technological innovation?

Broadly speaking, we can refer to a technological innovation as a new or improved product or process whose technological characteristics are significantly different from previous ones.

The term “technological innovation” gives the feeling of working in technology for technology's sake, as it basically refers to the process in which an organization (or a group of people working outside a structured organization) embarks on a journey in which the importance of technology as a source of innovation to increase competitiveness in the market has been identified.

Today's surge in technological innovation better reflects the business consideration of improving business value by working on the technological aspects of the product or service. Moreover, in the vast majority of products and services, there is no single technology at the heart of the system. The combination, integration and interaction of different technological areas make the product or service successful.

A product or process is considered to be an innovation if it achieves specific advantages for the company in question; these do not have to be new from the point of view of other companies or the market.

Innovation in technologies is happening faster and faster as the years go by. Different industries are taking advantage of people’s interests with the best and most advanced technology these days. There is definitely a huge difference between the earlier days till now, especially when it comes to technologies that are made and sold in the market at a specific price.

Today, nearly 77% of the devices we use today have AI built in. AI is the force behind many modern technological conveniences that are now part of our daily lives, from a variety of smart gadgets to Netflix recommendations and products like Amazon ’s Alexa and Google Home.
